Today's the day! I'm just as excited to get on my bike as I was when I was 5 years old. I may have gotten a bike upgrade since then, but I did add some streamers :)
My group of 31 riders are departing Providence, Rhode Island today, after dipping our wheels in the Atlantic Ocean. Orientation's been great so far, and I'm excited to get to know all the people accompanying me on my journey. We've played a LOT of name games, did some biking drills, and just finished our first build day in Providence. We've also done some great renditions of Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" on our group van rides and while we painted!
We also already made the front page of the local paper!
irst, I want to thank everyone who made this trip possible; for my generous acquaintances, coworkers, friends and family who donated to my campaign, took me on my first group rides, gave me advice, and took genuine interest in my journey. I am so excited to share my experience with you!
And as most of you know, I encountered a slight hiccup in my preparations for my trip - my bike was stolen a week before departing to the East Coast. I just wanted to give my biggest thanks to my friends, family, and colleagues for their huge and overwhelmingly generous support. My colleagues at Samasource, Samahope, and SamaUSA chipped in a grand total of $800 to help me replace my bike - I couldn't have been more surprised and touched! In honor of Sama, you'll see that I've decked out my bike a bit and added some Samasource yellow!
Anyway, I will post as many pictures as I can and share as many funny stories as possible. (If you want to receive emails on my new posts, sign up on the home page!)
Wish me good luck and good weather!
