Whenever I go to the beach, I always collect shells – it’s so hard to resist picking up that one shell that looks special and unique compared to the ones around it. I’ve ended up with handfuls of shells from many beaches, and they just sit on my windowsill gathering dust! DIY Halloween Painted Mason Jar Candle Votives

Aside from the costumes and candy, I love that Halloween marks the start of the end-of-year holidays. The aura of excitement and spirit, the festivities and gatherings, and all the special baking and making opportunities; I wish November and December lasted longer than just 2 months!

As I began brainstorming Halloween-themed DIY projects this month, I remembered the case of teeny tiny mason jars sitting in my cupboard, awaiting their transformation into less mundane objects. Inspired by painted mason jars I found on Etsy, I decided to make spooky candle votives!

DIY Hanging Succulent Planter or Candle Holder

While browsing Craigslist (another one of my funemployment hobbies), I found a man selling succulent cuttings and starters for only $1 each, which is really a bargain! Andre had a beautiful succulent garden, and I ended up going home with new project ideas and succulent wisdom, in addition to the 11 succulents I bought from him.

But what to do with them? After finding 2 stemless wine glasses, perfect for little terrariums, at Goodwill for 50 cents, I decided to copy one of Brit + Co's hanging succulent projects, where the terrarium hangs from a homemade net. I'm really pleased with how it turned out - it's really easy, and makes our living room look a little more grown-up!
